Walsh was the name of the Wizard of Oz, who later becomes transformed into a Winged Monkey, in the TV series Once Upon a Time.
History[]
Walsh was originally a failing circus performer from Kansas, before finding himself in the Land of Oz. When he met a young girl named Zelena, he used magical items to show her her true family in the "Enchanted Forest" (another world) and gave her the Silver Shoes in order to reach them. When Zelena later returned and wanted the Wizard to send her back in time to make sure the Evil Queen wasn't born. The Wizard states that he doesn't have that ability. In retaliation, Zelena found out his secret and turned him into a Flying Monkey after he commented that making the Silver Shoes appear was one of his known tricks. (Once Upon a Time: "It's Not Easy Being Green")

Zelena threatens Walsh.
After this action, Zelena was approached by Glinda. Glinda is not upset at the Wizard's transformation, saying he was tricking the people of Oz, giving them false hope. She says some time as Zelena's pet will do him good. After Zelena's apparent death upon melting, Glinda takes Dorothy along the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz suspecting that the spell that she casted on Walsh has become undone. When they arrive, the Wizard gives Dorothy a pair of Silver Shoes and tells her to tap them together three times to get back to Kansas. Dorothy does and disappears. Glinda discovers that Zelena has been posing as the Wizard of Oz, having survived the pail of water after all. Glinda says she will find someone capable of stopping Zelena, but Zelena banishes her to the Enchanted Forest. (Once Upon a Time: "Kansas")
On orders from the Wicked Witch, he took his human form and met Emma Swan. He then began a relationship with her, and, less than a year later, proposed marriage. Emma seriously considered his offer but rejected him when Hook helped her to regain her memories. Upon hearing this, Walsh attacked her and revealed his true form. Emma fought him off and sent him over the ledge of her building. He fell to the ground and turned to dust. (Once Upon a Time: "New York City Serenade")
Note: Pat Walshe was the name of the actor who played Nikko the Winged Monkey in MGM's 1939 The Wizard of Oz.
