The Woodsman is a 2012 American dramatico-musical based on the backstory of the Tin Woodman, music composed by Edward W. Hardy, lyrics by Jennifer Loring, and book by James Ortiz.
It utilizes Japanese bunraku style puppetry to depict the Tin Man and his transformation as well as characters like the Wicked Witch of the East and the Kalidahs. Other then an opening monologue by Nick Chopper to establish the setting, including how the Witch of the East has made speaking aloud dangerous, the story is mostly conveyed through pantomime and a beautifully haunting violin score.
The omnipresent music helps pulls the audience into every single scene and really makes this show magical. The Woodsman (Original Off-Broadway Solo Recording) was released on May 29, 2016.
