Return to Oz is a unique 1985 live action fantasy film by Walt Disney Pictures. It was directed by Walter Murch that serves as a semi sequel to both the iconic 1939 film by MGM and the original story of 1900 by Oz creator L. Frank Baum. It is loosely based on the second and third sequel Oz books out of the official 14 titled The Marvelous Land of Oz, published in 1904 and Ozma of Oz, published in 1907 which also were written by Baum. Despite its controversy and ultimately being a box office failure during it's theatrical release over thirty years ago, it has now become a treasured Cult Classic. One of which is praised by loyal Oz fans from all around the world. Return to Oz is also viewed by many critics and Oz fans to be the most faithful Oz film-adaption that has ever been made yet, staying extremely faithful to the original story lines, descriptions and darker themes of what Baum himself most likely envisioned when he first introduced the Land of Oz to the world in 1900.

Return to Oz captures the essence of L. Frank Baum's Oz books almost perfectly. Visit the unofficial fansite to learn more @ WWW.Waltdisneysreturntooz.Com
