Romantic Oz is a notable sub-genre of alternate Oz that fits into the convention of romantasy. It often includes a version of Dorothy Gale who is able to date her companions who are turned human, as in the cases of Oz+ Shall We Date?, Captive Hearts of Oz, Emerald City (TV series), and Oz ReVamped.
In other cases, mature Oz book series with adult sexual content have been written by such authors as March Laumer, Gregory Maguire, and Jonathan Markoff, along with standalone titles including Philip José Farmer's A Barnstormer in Oz and Alan Moore's Lost Girls. Both the series Emerald City Academy and Faeries of Oz feature multiple character relationships with some polyamorous.
The genre also includes actual romantic novels such as The Wicked Hot Wizard of Oz, Kinky Oz, Master of Oz, Lord Kir of Oz, and even two works entitled Fifty Shades of Oz .
