Pittypat is a white rabbit who lives on the Isle of Mifkets. His favorite diet is clover and sweet roots. He befriended John Dough when he landed on the island, and introduced him to "Princess" Jacquelin. Later, when the Mifkets had been riled up by Ooboo, Pittypat led John, Chick the Cherub, and the Princess to the safety of the Fairy Beavers' dam. (John Dough and the Cherub)
Trivia[]
Pittypat is introduced in L. Frank Baum's text from the view of John, who sees "at his feet a small animal which sat upon its haunches and regarded him with big and earnest eyes." This suggests that Pittypat is a normal sized rabbit, but John R. Neill's illustration shows him as nearly the size of a man. As the story appears to have been written as the template for a stage play, it is likely that Pittypat would have been played by a man in a costume.
