- Publisher William F. Lee of Reilly & Lee also lived in Philadelphia. He chose Thompson to replace L. Frank Baum as Oz author after Baum's death, in part because he was familiar with Thompson's work for children in a local newspaper, The Philadelphia Public Ledger.
- Frank Moore, an actor who played in Baum's Oz stage and screen dramatizations, was bon in Philadelphia.
- While it is not a direct connection with Oz, it can nonetheless be noted that Baum's first book illustrator, Maxfield Parrish, was yet another Philadelphian.
