Monica's Gang, also called Monica and Friends, Frizz and Friends, and Turma da Mônica, is a Brazilian comic book series created by Maurício de Sousa.

Adaptations[]

Clássicos para Sempre - O Mágico de Oz[]

The first adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, Clássicos para Sempre - O Mágico de Oz (ISBN 8539416786) is a children's picture book that tells the story of Dorothy ("played" by Monica) and her dog Toto ("played" by Blu), who ended up in the world of Oz where they meet Scarecrow ("played" by Chuck Billy), Tin Man ("played" by Smudge), and Lion ("played" by Jimmy Five). Together, they venture towards the Emerald City, to have their wishes granted by the Wizard of Oz ("played" by Thunder), but first they will have to face the wrath of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Turma da Mônica em O Mágico de Oz[]

The second adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, Turma da Mônica em O Mágico de Oz (ISBN 858368135x) is a comic book that tells the same story once again. This is a commemorative edition of Mauricio de Sousa's 80th birthday.

Easter Eggs & Guest Appearances[]

Coelhada nas Estrelas[]

On page seven, inside the "Penauas" car, we have a tribute to The Wizard of Oz, with the Tin Man appearing alongside other famous movie robots.

Guardoidões da Galáxia[]

The Wicked Witch of the West appears alongside several movie villains.

Os Quatro Músicos do Bairro do Limoeiro![]

In both the comic book and its animated adaptation, Chuck Billy appears dressed up as Scarecrow, asking to Monica, Jimmy Five, and Maggy if they had seen the Wizard of "Nóis", then being written off because he was "in the wrong story", as they were parodying the "Town Musicians of Bremen".
