Mary Jane Blige  (January 11, 1971)  is an American singer, songwriter, model, record producer and actress.


Beginning her career as a background singer in Uptown Records in 1989, she released her own album in 1992 under the name What's the 411?   Born in The Bronx, New York. She is the second of four children born to parents Cora, a nurse and Thomas Blige, a jazz musician. When she was only five her family moved to Georgia where she sand in the church choir.  As Blige grew she dealt with the absence of her father and she begun to act accordingly amongst people and became addicted to partying. Where she was introduced to drugs and alcohol.  In 1991 productions for her new album began to form. She's appeared in various films, movies and has worked with many musicians such as Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Puff Daddy.

She portrayed the role of Evillene in The Wiz Live! on December 3, 2015. This performance earned her a Critics' Choice Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress In a Movie Made For Television Or Limited Series, but she lost to Jean Smart, who won for Fargo.
