How the Wizard Came to Oz is an upcoming film adaptation of the book of the same name written by Donald Abbott who has also written the screenplay. It is being produced by RAMstar studios and directed by Cole S. McKay. Since it is a prequel about the Wizard first coming to Oz, the film would be a contrast to 2013's Oz: The Great and Powerful. It is unknown if and when it is going to be released as last social media update was in 2019.
Production History[]
Abbott had written two screenplays, one for his 1991 novel How the Wizard Came to Oz and the other based on 1997's How the Wizard Saved Oz. These two scripts were shared online in 2012 and 2013 respectfully as a project pitch to Amazon Studios. They were not picked up and the public script submission process was ended in 2019. However Abbott has taken his first script to Script Revolution .
Producer BJ Plott approached Abbott who agreed to make the film, but it was delayed because Disney's film was underway with a similar premise. In October 2016, the film announcement was made and if it is a success, the producers note the possibility of spreading out a franchise based on Abbott's other works.
Plot[]
The story follows the novel with a focus on the Wizard's childhood.
