Flicker is an Ozian character created by Eric Shanower, first appearing in The Ice King of Oz.
Character biography[]
Flicker was a candlemaker in Winkie Country who stood up to the Wicked Witch of the West and was turned into a candle for his pains. Years later, Jellia Jamb burned the candle without knowing what it really was, and the spell was broken, but only partially. Due to having been in an enchanted state for so long, Flicker was now a bizarre anthropomorphic candle. Upon reviving, Flicker quickly learned that the Witch had been destroyed by Dorothy Gale. He joined Dorothy on her mission to rescue Ozma from the Ice King, and was crucial to the mission's success. Glinda was able to stop Flicker from melting, freezing him in a 6-inch-tall form. Flicker later accompanied Dorothy and Bungle to Ma-dul-ma-dun. ("Dorothy and the Mushroom Queen")

In addition to his starring roles in Ice King and "Mushroom Queen," Flicker appears in crowd scenes in other books illustrated by Shanower, such as The Wicked Witch of Oz and The Living House of Oz.
