Coo-ee-oh was the queen of the Skeezers when they fought their conflict with the Flatheads. She was a "Krumbic Witch" (which is seven times worse than an ordinary witch[1]) and a capricious tyrant; she spied on and oppressed her subjects, and betrayed the Three Adepts, transforming them into lake fish. No one expressed regret when she was changed into a diamond-studded swan and allowed to swim away. Her maid, Lady Aurex, succeeded her.

Her name could be broken into three parts, "coo", "ee", and "oh," to operate the magic machines of the city. (Glinda of Oz)

Influences[]

In Dorothy and the Witches of Oz, the phrase "Coo-ee-oh" is a charm of power, although in different context than in the book. The character Billie Westbrook has some qualities in common with Coo-ee-oh.

Notes[]

  1. This detail was shared by Jack Snow in Who's Who in Oz, but does not appear in L. Frank Baum's novel.
