The Fairy Beavers are magical creatures that live on the Island of the Mifkets under the big dam in the river, behind a waterfall.

Description[]

The Fairy Beavers watch over the fortunes of all ordinary beavers and take care of them. They are invisible, even to beavers, and mortals can only see them when the Fairy Beavers permit them to. They have soft, silvery fur and each wears a a jeweled circlet and a cloak blazoned with its rank.

Their king is a handsome beaver with silver fur, a calm dignified face, and kindly and intelligent eyes. His tiny golden crown is set with jewels so bright and sparkling it lights the dark tunnels that lead to the beavers' underground palace.

The Palace[]

The Fairy Beavers' palace is more beautifully decorated than the Palace of Romance. It was built many years ago by beaver forefathers, and the only humans to ever visit are Chick the Cherub and Princess Jacquelin.

The Hall of Beavers is deep underneath the waters of the pool formed by their dam. Its walls are set thick with brilliant jewels forming exquisite pictures. The floor is of engraved gold and strewn with plush cushions.

The Music Room is dome-shaped, with many silver tubes projecting from the ceiling. Near the floor are an assortment of glass and metal plates. When water drips through the tubes and falls onto the plates it creates sweet and harmonious music.

The Observation Room contains a square box draped with black silk, having a window in one side. Through the magic of the Fairy Beavers, the box can display a scene from anywhere in the world, the sounds from the scene also being heard.

The splendid Banquet Hall is furnished with a long, low table and rows of silken cushions.

History[]

When the Mifkets threatened John Dough and his friends, the King of the Fairy Beavers gave them sanctuary in his underground palace. He helped reunite Princess Jacquelin with her parents, and then helped John and Chick escape from the island. (John Dough and the Cherub)

Many years later, the King of the Fairy Beavers met Tom, Twink, their living clown Twiffle, and the Shaggy Man. He asked if the Shaggy Man might invite him to the Land of Oz, which Shaggy agreed to. So the King and the rest of the Fairy Beavers lead them through the tunnel under the Deadly Desert made by the Nome King. The beavers used their magic to get through Glinda's Barrier of Invisibility, and once in Oz, they helped to capture Conjo, who hoped to become the new Wizard of Oz. (The Shaggy Man of Oz)
