Dorothy Meets Ozma of Oz is a direct to video 28 minute cartoon adaptation of Ozma of Oz released on November 18, 1987. It was put out by Lorimar Distribution, a company which existed 1969-1993 before being absorbed by Warner Brothers.
Summary[]
When Aunt Em and Uncle Henry take a ship to visit the former's cousin in Australia, Dorothy gets washed overboard while trying to save Toto who had run onto the deck during a storm. She clings to a chicken coop, which was also washed overboard. Arriving in Oz, she runs afoul of the Wheelers before being rescued by Princess Ozma, who is on a diplomatic mission to the Nome Kingdom.

Trivia[]
- This special was released just after the The Wonderful Wizard of Oz anime series had ended a month earlier, and two years after Return to Oz which had some plot similarities.
- In the book, Aunt Em and Toto were left back home in Kansas, whereas now they are on the ship.
- The book's subplots involving Princess Langwidere, the Army of Oz, and Prince Evring are eliminated to save time.
