Chopfyt is a character in The Tin Woodman of Oz. His name is a portmanteau of Nick Chopper the Tin Woodman and Abel Fyter the Tin Soldier, as he was made by Ku-Klip the tinsmith from the limbs of Fyter and Chopper, including Fyter's head, and secured with magic glue. He eventually marries the Tin Woodman’s love interest Nimmie Amee. He is described as a bit grumpy, but then again he only appears in a scene where Captain Fyter and the Tin Woodman have come to woo Nimmie. (The Tin Woodman of Oz) He is also described by his creator as vain, favoring his tin arm over the rest of his body because it was shiny, which Fyter attributed to his old head being vain. Ku-Klip also claims that he may have made some mistake when attaching Chopfyt's stomach, as the amalgamation insists upon eating five meals a day, much to the annoyance of the tinsmith.

Other Works[]

Chopfyt appears in Eric Shanower’s horror short story Chop. In it, Button-Bright happens upon the isolated cottage Nimmie and Chopfyt live in. Chopfyt, asking now to only be known as Chop, invites Button-Bright in, only to show him the horrible experiments he’s been doing on rabbits by taking them apart limb from limb and reassembling them. They are kept alive by the spell that makes dying impossible in Oz. When Button-Bright discovers Nimmie, who has been chopped to pieces but still alive, she yells at him to run, but Button-Bright does not escape.
