Charlie Griffiths was a sailor who made his home in California.

He was once the first mate aboard a trading schooner named the "Anemone", serving under the command of Cap'n Bill. When the captain was injured in an accident he retired and Charlie became captain in his place.
About the same time, his wife gave birth to a daughter named Mayre, who was later nicknamed "Trot". (The Sea Fairies)
