Chang Wang Woe was the Emperor of the Silver Islands, the husband of Empress Tsing Tsing, the father of three sons and the grandfather of fifteen grandsons.

After he defeated the King of the Golden Islands in battle, a wicked magician in the King's employ crept into the Emperor's quarters at night and transformed him into a crocus. His wife took the crocus, planted it in a silver bowl and kept it fresh with her tears for three days. It changed into a giant bean pole which grew until it emerged on the other side of the world, in the Munchkin Country of the Land of Oz. A parchment revealed that Chang Wang Woe's spirit would enter the first being who touched this pole, which turned out to be the famous Scarecrow of Oz. (The Royal Book of Oz)
